Project Achievements 20080520
Under the framework of the project three child care playgroups with longer working hours were established. They were opened in three preschool education institutions (two in Vilnius city, one in Pagiriai township, Vilnius region). The playgroups were intended to help parents, who work at a larger distance from their place of residence or work in shifts. Children in these playgroups could stay longer. If necessary, Pagiriai nursery could even accommodate them for the night.
In these playgroups parents were also given integrated assistance. During the period of the project parents were given 769 consultations by social workers, 42 by psychologists and 6 by lawyers. 25 meetings of self help groups were arranged. Beside that, parents were offered a possibility of improving their vocational and other skills – a total of 53 certificates in various fields were awarded. 28 were awarded for computer literacy, 15 – English language, 10 – Lithuanian language. 5 vocational education certificates were awarded: 3 – tailor, 1 – massage therapist, 1 – car driving.
The benefit of such services is obvious: from 73 families that participated in the project, 8 parents found a job thanks to the services provided, 8 received a possibility to move to a better paid job through improving their qualifications and professional knowledge. Self confidence of parents was also definitely increased. Assistance of psychologist helped the majority of parents to communicate with their children. The consultations of social workers helped to solve quite a lot of issues, related to social problems. During the meetings with families whose kids attended these playgroups it became evident that the experiment served its purpose and this kind of playgroups is required and necessary. Also improved were the social skills of children – basic activity organisation, participating in group activity, expressing emotions, overcoming stress and other general social skills. This practice is also successfully being applied in other European countries. The divide between members of this family is mitigated and their integration into labour market is improved there by using this approach.
On the expiration of the project 56.8% of parents in target group are successfully combining their work and family responsibilities.
