The
Center publishes a monthly newsletter in Lithuanian and a quarterly
one in English, both are entitled "Woman's World". We
intend to make the magazines more focused, critical, challenging
and engaging, in particular, from gender and feminist perspectives.
This means we are concerned in the way gender and identity of the
women is constructed as well as contested in the Lithuania today.
The transition from a communist towards a free independent civil
society has been considered a transitional phase, with little critical
engagement of the complexities and multi-faceted aspects of what
this has meant for women. What new emergent images and representation
of women are being created within this transitionally period? Is
there a confusion of 'old' and 'new' representations and what form
does it take? Does national freedom automatically imply freedom
for women? Has the sudden social and economical changes in Lithuania
also changed gender relations in the family and society?
We
want to make the magazine which is the voice of women in Lithuania,
in which they are a 'visible' presence in society regardless of
their age, qualification, skills, experiences, sexual orientation,
status, etc., and that it is reflective of their realities be it
concerns, hopes or aspirations. We are also interested in the differences
and diversities in the way women conceive their realities and life
situations and wanted to create a space in which to debate these
issues. The magazine will cover a broad spectrum of areas and subjects.
We
would encourage women to write and contribute to the magazine, if
you are upset or angry, happy or just content with women's issues
- let us know.
We
also want to continue to promote networking and sharing information
and news - so if new organizations are starting, let us know. If
you want to write about your organization and the work it does,
let us know. If you need to contact other women to start a women's
group, let us know.
